2017 Guest Conductors
Mrs. Patricia Meeks
High School Guest Conductor
Patricia Meeks recently retired as an instrumental music educator in the Shawnee Local School system (Lima), where she taught for thirty-six years. Pat has a B.M.E. and M.A. in Music Education from Eastern Kentucky University with additional graduate work at the University of Akron. She was co-director of the Lima Shawnee Marching Band, director of the High School Symphonic Band, and taught grades five through eight at Shawnee Middle School. Under her direction the Shawnee Marching Band and Symphonic Band had a consistent record of OMEA state superior ratings over the past 25 years.
Mrs. Meeks has a long record of volunteer service with the Ohio Music Education Association. Her OMEA service has included: Co-Chair of the District 3 East Band and Chorus Adjudicated Event, State Chair for the NW OMEA State Adjudicated Event, former President of OMEA District 3, and served on numerous committees in District 3. She served on the OMEA Adjudicated Events Committee for fifteen years in the positions of Marching Band Affairs Chair, High School Affairs Chair, Adjudicated Events Committee Chair, Instrumental Advisor, and Rules and Regulations Chair. She was elected President of OMEA from 2012-14, served as Chair of DaCapo 2014-16, and is currently the chair of the OMEA Constitution Committee. On February 4, 2017, Pat will receive the OMEA Distinguished Service Award during the Cleveland State Conference.
Mrs. Meeks is active as a Solo and Ensemble adjudicator, as well as a Large Group adjudicator, and has guest conducted bands in Ohio, Virginia and Georgia. She is a member of NAfME/OMEA, OEA, and Phi Beta Mu.
Mrs. Meeks is currently teaching as an Artist in Residence for the Ohio Arts Council’s TeachArtsOhio initiative.
Mr. Dan Meeks
Middle School Guest Conductor
Dan Meeks served as Instrumental Music teacher in the Shawnee Local School District in Lima for the past 11 years, teaching grades 5-12 with his wife, Patricia Meeks. While at Shawnee, his high school concert bands consistently received superior ratings at OMEA District and State Adjudicated Events. Active as a private percussion instructor, his students at Shawnee High School and Middle School earned Superior Ratings at OMEA Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Events. Mr. Meeks has also had private students selected to the OMEA All State Band and Orchestra eight of the past ten years.
Active in OMEA, Dan has been a Large group and Solo & Ensemble Adjudicator for over 25 years and has been Percussion Caption Head for OMEA Marching Band various times throughout his teaching career.
Before teaching at Shawnee, Mr. Meeks taught in the Southwest Local School District, Harrison, Ohio for 27 years. During that time, the Harrison Jr. High Bands earned numerous awards and recognition across the state. The Harrison Jr. High Bands consistently earned Superior Ratings in Class A at OMEA Large Group and Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Events. The Concert Band and Jazz Band were also selected to perform at the OMEA Professional Development Conference four times and had the honor of performing at Disney World five times. They were also selected as the top middle school/junior high instrumental performing group at the Showcase Music Festivals 15 years in a row.
Mr. Meeks earned his Bachelor Degree in Music at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has also completed graduate work at Akron University, Wright State University, Vandercook College, and the University of Dayton. He is married to Patricia Meeks, who he had the pleasure of teaching Instrumental Music at Shawnee Local Schools for the past 11 years. Mr. Meeks is currently teaching as an Artist in Residence for the Ohio Arts Council’s TeachArtsOhio initiative.

8:30-9:00am – Bands arrive at FUHS, storing coats, cases, etc. in auditorium
9:30 – HS rehearsal begins on stage.
9:30 – JH rehearsal begins in band room.
11:00 – JH breaks for Lunch until 12:00 PM, eat in band room
12:00 – HS breaks for Lunch until 1:00 PM, eat in band room
12:00 – JH rehearsal resumes on stage
1:00 – HS rehearsal resumes in band room.
5:00 – JH students break for Dinner
5:30 – HS students break for Dinner
6:40 – JH students report to stage for warm-up and tune-up.
6:50 – HS students report to band room for warm-up
7:00 – Concert begins ($3 admission)
If your high school students are driving separately and need to park, ask for them to use the large lot in front of the school right off 22.
Lunch and Dinner
Lunch should be packed. There will be a lunch break during the day.
Participants will need to bring $5 to cover pizza and a drink for dinner.

- Fairfield Union is delayed
- If any other county schools are delayed
We will move the event to Wednesday, January 18 if one or more of the following occurs…
- Fairfield Union is closed on January 11
- If more than one participating county school is closed on January 11
If one or more participating school is closed on January 18, the event will not occur this year.
