About

Mr. Benjamin E. Factor has served as Director of Bands at Lancaster High School since 2014, where he leads a comprehensive band program offering students diverse performance and leadership opportunities through three concert bands, marching band, jazz band, pep band, and numerous chamber ensembles. He also collaborates with the General Sherman and Thomas Ewing Junior High School band programs to provide a unified curriculum and seamless musical experience for students in grades 6–12.

Under Mr. Factor’s leadership, Lancaster ensembles have consistently earned Superior ratings at district and state adjudicated events. The Symphonic Band earned the school’s first State Superior rating in more than twenty years, while the Concert Band received its first-ever State Superior rating. His program emphasizes musical excellence, student leadership, and personal growth, challenging students to become skilled musicians, confident leaders, and lifelong learners.

A native of Grove City, Ohio, Mr. Factor earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree, graduating magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University in 2007. He also holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Ohio Dominican University.

Prior to joining Lancaster City Schools, Mr. Factor served for seven years as Director of Bands at Liberty Union-Thurston Local Schools. During his tenure, the Liberty Union Marching Band qualified for State Marching Band Finals for the first time in school history and earned Superior ratings each year thereafter, including fourteen first-place finishes over five competitive seasons. His concert band earned its first State Superior rating in nearly fifty years and continued to receive consistent Superior ratings at district and state adjudicated events.

An active leader in the Ohio Music Education Association, Mr. Factor has served as State Treasurer, All-State Ensembles Co-Chair, All-State Jazz Band Chair, Strategic Plan Chair, Advocacy Committee Member, and District 15 Treasurer. He is also a certified OMEA adjudicator for Marching Band, Solo & Ensemble, and Large Group events. He has presented clinics and professional development sessions at the OMEA Professional Development Conference, The Ohio State University Student Leadership Intensive, Capital University Complete Band Director Workshop, and the OMEA Marching Band Adjudicators Summer Session.

Mr. Factor is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Ohio Music Education Association, American School Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. In 2022, he received the Music Education Roll of Distinction Award from The Ohio State University School of Music in recognition of his contributions to music education and leadership in the profession.
